The overarching goal of this project is to establish a set of accessible competency tools that will be used in the informed assignment of work. Secondary goals include reinforcing hands-on training methods, supporting employer-led training,promoting equity and diversity in the workplace, aiding in the on boarding of new and young workers and encouraging disabled workers to perform work safely, within their abilities.
The ProductA library of tools to be used in the verification of a worker’s competency in the use of power tools, small engine equipment and other hazardous tasks. The tools will be available at no cost and may serve as the guideline for hands-on training, as well as a means of verifying understanding. The tools will be made available online, as part of an interactive search tool.
The first project will establish 25 competency tools. which will be determined by a steering committee of industry experts based on their own experiences, WSIB statistics, industry provided feedback and overall project goals.
Competency tools enable you to assess the proficiency of yourself or of others, across the range of skills and knowledge identified as specific to the safe operation of a tool or performance of a task.

Get InvolvedTo guarantee the success of this project, partners will be required in a combination of roles including development, support and finance.
Industry associations, employers and experts will be used to develop, review and approve the tools for functionality, ease of use, completeness and accessibility.
Encourage the use of the tools through supporting media campaigns, industry events, informing the public and championing training.
Industry contributions enable Competency Canada to develop competency tools and provide them, at no cost.
